Collecting Activities

The collection was presented to the Prague House of Photography, o.p.s., by a civic association FotoForum Praha (the original name of the Prague House of Photography). Its members are 64 leading Czech and Slovak authors, theoreticians and visual arts experts. The collection fond has been acquiring most often by member fees and presents from both Czech and foreign authors. On 2 December 2005 the Prague House of Photography Collection was included in the Central Register of Collections (CRC) of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic by course of law no. 122/2000.

The PHP collection documents mainly contemporary photography, especially since the 1960s; however, it also covers older periods. Photographs by Adolf Schneeberger are from the end of the 1920s and early 1930s, an extensive collection by Dagmar Hochová represents well her main life interest in the theme of children from the end of the 1940s, to the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. There are Eva Fuková's early works from the 1950s included in the collection and Pavel Štecha's, Karel Kuklík's and Antanas Sutkus's from the 1960s. Pavel Dias is related to the 1970s. The Prague House of Photography intends to enlarge its photographic collection further by pieces presented by authors or copyright heirs, eventually purchased. The solicitation stress of the PHP, though, will be put on the systematic catching up with contemporary production. It would be pointless to double collections of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague and Moravian Gallery in Brno. Classical Czech photography has been documented for decades and available collections of classics and deceased authors have thus become part of the above-mentioned national funds.
